Back in the late 1800s, laughing gas (nitrous oxide, N2O) was used by dentists to extract teeth. It doesn’t actually do much against the pain, but it manages the anxiety during the treatment: you just don’t care anymore about the pain. So, despite the name, dental surgery at the time was no laughing matter. But look at those prices!!
